Privacy Policy for OpenMW Discord-IRC Bridge Last Updated: August 27, 2026 1. Overview This privacy policy describes how the OpenMW Discord-IRC Bridge ("the Bridge") collects, uses, and handles data when bridging messages between Discord and Libera Chat IRC. The Bridge is an open-source tool that enables real-time, bidirectional message synchronization between a Discord server and an IRC channel on Libera Chat. No data is stored, sold, shared with third parties, or used for purposes beyond operating the bridge. 2. Privileged Intent and Data Collection The Bridge requests the following Discord privileged intent to function: | Intent | Purpose | Data Used | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | MESSAGE_CONTENT | Read Discord messages to forward to IRC | Message content, author username, channel ID | That's it. The Bridge does not request GUILD_MEMBERS, message reactions, or any other privileged intents. 3. How the Bridge Works The Bridge operates in real-time in both directions: * Discord → IRC: Messages posted in Discord are immediately forwarded to the IRC channel * IRC → Discord: Messages posted in IRC are immediately forwarded to the Discord channel Messages flow through the Bridge without being stored, cached, or logged. 4. Why We Need MESSAGE_CONTENT Discord requires explicit permission to read message content. Without this intent, the Bridge cannot access the text of Discord messages to forward them to IRC. 5. Data Retention and Storage The Bridge stores no data at all. * Messages are read and immediately forwarded to the destination platform * No messages are cached, logged, or persisted * No user data is retained * No configuration or metadata is stored beyond what Discord and IRC require to function 6. Data Access and Sharing * Data flows bidirectionally between Discord and IRC in real-time * No data is stored on the Bridge administrator's server or any third-party service * Messages are shared only between Discord and IRC participants; no other party has access * Discord users see IRC messages; IRC users see Discord messages 7. User Rights and Controls * Users can delete messages in Discord; the Bridge will not retrieve deleted messages from IRC * Users can opt out by leaving the Discord server or not speaking in the bridged channels * IRC users can leave the channel to stop seeing bridged Discord messages * Administrators can disable the Bridge at any time, stopping all message forwarding 8. Open Source and Transparency The Bridge is open-source software. The source code is publicly available for independent review at https://github.com/reactiflux/discord-irc. This allows security researchers and users to verify that no unauthorized data collection or storage occurs. 9. Security * Messages are transmitted between Discord and IRC using each platform's native transport security * The Bridge does not encrypt, log, or cache messages * The Bridge does not store users' credentials 10. Libera Chat IRC Considerations * IRC is not end-to-end encrypted and messages are visible on the IRC network * Users should be aware that bridging makes Discord messages visible to all IRC users on that network * Libera Chat's privacy policies and terms of service apply to bridged messages: https://libera.chat/policies/ 11. Discord Considerations * Discord users can see all IRC messages forwarded to the bridged channels * Discord's privacy policies and terms of service apply to bridged messages 12. Compliance Discord Compliance: * This Bridge complies with Discord's Developer Terms of Service and Privileged Intent policies * The MESSAGE_CONTENT intent is used exclusively for message bridging * No tracking, profiling, or analytics are performed on message content Legal Notices: * This Bridge is provided "as is" without warranties * Users are responsible for complying with Discord's and Libera Chat's terms of service * The Bridge administrator is responsible for compliance with applicable data protection laws in their jurisdiction 13. Changes to This Policy This privacy policy may be updated at any time. The "Last Updated" date will reflect the most recent changes. 14.
