Im wondering if there's any downside to raising it to 50 2026-06-17T00:48:55 Not really, can't tell more than a few frames between 10 and whatever. Might look weird seeing the edge of the world tho 2026-06-17T01:44:33 Hey Beavis, is this damn thing on? 2026-06-17T01:44:44 uhhh.... oops 2026-06-17T01:58:45 Does anyone have any recommendations for Sun's Dusk needs? I play with the 1.5 timescale to slow days down, so maybe I'll end up needing to change some of the timescale settings for the needs stages. I have baths of vvardenfell and the crafting framework as well, just haven't really messed with either much, but I imagine I'll see a need for them now. Is there any sort of canteen I can keep on me to not worry about water as 2026-06-17T01:58:45 much? 2026-06-17T02:53:06 <.gordonfreakman> I'm currently writing a .yaml file for Orange Narsis to use Static Switching System 2026-06-17T02:53:16 <.gordonfreakman> This is the most tedious thing I have ever done there are so many meshes 😭 2026-06-17T02:53:27 <.gordonfreakman> I was getting flickering with the .esp and now I'm too far in 2026-06-17T02:58:42 I've yet to explore any of the TR stuff, I've heard Narsis is super impressive though. 2026-06-17T03:07:31 <.gordonfreakman> the little bit I have done of it is super cool 2026-06-17T03:07:52 <.gordonfreakman> but even past content, just visually it's insane. The amount of work that team puts in is baffling 2026-06-17T03:23:13 I keep trying to go to the mainland but I'm like "Okay let me knock suck stuff out real quick." And I get distracted. 2026-06-17T03:58:55 hey is anyone using the unofficial free fps/occlusion culling fork? i have a performance question. can you: 1) go onto the top of a hill/mountain, look at the horizon, make a save 2) close and reopen the game, load that save, don't move the camera 3) record your FPS 4) close the game, disable occlusion culling (there's an option for it, right?), reopen it, load that save 4) record your FPS 2026-06-17T03:59:25 i'm comparing different occlusion systems and i'm trying to decide how to interpret some performance numbers i'm looking at. if someone did this for me it would make it easier for me to understand the numbers i'm looking at. thanks! 2026-06-17T04:28:31 The problem with that is how much you're culling vs the cost of rendering 2026-06-17T04:28:40 It will vary wildly 2026-06-17T04:29:10 Old Ebonheart and Narsis are good places to test 2026-06-17T04:29:54 If you test in the wilderness with pretty much nothing to occlude, then there's not a lot of benefit 2026-06-17T04:32:59 In MWSE with multithreading and 4 threads, the cost is slightly below 1 ms 2026-06-17T04:33:41 Without multithreading, you jump into 2 or more ms 2026-06-17T04:36:05 And in old systems from more than 10 years ago, 4~5 ms 2026-06-17T04:36:28 Or more, it is heavily hardware dependent 2026-06-17T05:03:36 Basically same. I always try to get my feet wet a little, recruit Arvesa, and before I know it, I'm level 30 in my playthrough without having gone to the mainland. With this playthrough, I'm taking a much slower approach with my Potential Character Progression, avoiding all power leveling and utilizing the new practice dummies for more diagetic leveling. I'm like 20 hours in my save at level 4-5. If only I could figure out 2026-06-17T05:03:37 how to edit Caswyn's spell list, then I could have my lil trio squad ascending to the becoming the new Tribunal without Caswyn spamming clannfears constantly. 😭 2026-06-17T05:03:45 yeah i'm trying to get a feel for what numbers people run into in situations like the ones i described in practice 2026-06-17T05:04:34 i know that the difference is largely scene-dependent 2026-06-17T05:04:43 Hell yeah, I'm level 6 at nearly 11 hours in 2026-06-17T05:04:44 But if you go to the top of the hill, occlusion is going to be essentially minimized, right? 2026-06-17T05:04:45 just trying to build my intuition without just looking at my own system 2026-06-17T05:04:49 yeah, that's the idea 2026-06-17T05:04:57 but there's still going to be Some stuff that gets occluded 2026-06-17T05:05:04 I could try it maybe on a weekend. But when I last tested it on my x3d cpu setup, I didn't see any difference whatsoever 2026-06-17T05:05:05 i'm trying to work out where a threshold is 2026-06-17T05:05:09 ic 2026-06-17T05:07:05 Ya I've done four full characters and only been to mainland on one of them, And that was just telvanni isles 2026-06-17T05:08:04 There is just so much more that I want to try out an learn with the base game that I keep trying to start TR but then just abandoning it 2026-06-17T05:08:09 I don't feel obligated to do anything tho 2026-06-17T05:08:16 It's such a good game 2026-06-17T05:08:45 If I alt started on the mainland that would probably be a good idea 2026-06-17T05:18:56 Alt start would be good if you want to focus on the mainland. When you are there, there are many things to do, so the game should flow naturally. With standard start, it seems natural to do some stuff on Vvardenfell first. There are some hooks to the mainland, so maybe you will follow that, but it's also easy to play for 50 hours without visiting any part of the mainland. 2026-06-17T05:43:35 I can't wait to use this gauntlet some more. 2026-06-17T05:43:36 https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/260439894298460160/1516679684631433347/Screenshot_from_2026-06-17_12-43-15.png?ex=6a338587&is=6a323407&hm=632631dfe57270a958b2ae018f80e82bc53392c367163e8a9b60e5909b3d02dd& 2026-06-17T05:45:11 With my current kit, I can handle all creatures fairly well. I have a fireball gauntlet so I can handle groups of creatures well now too (quickly). Hoping that this will help me with heavily armored, high damage weapon NPCs and also with caster NPCs 2026-06-17T05:48:50 I think the last things I really need before I start taking on caves, ruins, tombs, etc. are two rings to alleviate the dread curses (cause I've buffed them to be more threatening) 2026-06-17T05:56:13 heya 2026-06-17T05:56:55 new here 2026-06-17T05:58:08 so basically i never played through a complete Morrowind playthrough and decided to get openMW and play with i heart vanilla, i thought i'd play as much vanilla as possible for my first playthrough 2026-06-17T05:59:05 But now im thinking i should just get something more because its still too retro for my liking 2026-06-17T05:59:21 Total Overhaul is a good choice that won't ruin a first playthrough? 2026-06-17T06:07:40 *** ChanServ sets mode: +o jvoisin 2026-06-17T06:31:26 I think total overhaul rocks 2026-06-17T06:32:08 Disagree with some of their philosophy on AI but that’s okay. I think it’s an okay first way to play, many disagree. 2026-06-17T06:32:39 ^ 2026-06-17T06:37:02 <.gonzo.> it's not a philosophy against AI. it was a request from some people because it made the original workers upset. there is still plenty of AI work on our lists, including in my own work lol 2026-06-17T06:38:14 Was it the same case for the audiobooks, then? Fair enough I suppose. 2026-06-17T06:38:39 <.gonzo.> yeah well i mean we didn't get an official letter from stephen fry, but it just seemed like a logical move 2026-06-17T06:39:05 <.gonzo.> stay tuned, because some voices will return, but done by the community instead of the robot 2026-06-17T06:39:34 Ah excellent. Didn’t know that was an ongoing project, very good. 2026-06-17T06:39:45 Do you just want better graphics or is something else feeling off 2026-06-17T06:40:35 Can you point me toward where I can help out? I’d do a sample. 2026-06-17T06:41:49 <.gonzo.> total overhaul is really geared towards returning players wanting a better challenge or more content to spice stuff up. i'm a big believer in playing the game mostly how it was, because it's a very good game you owe it to yourself to experience how we all did back in 2002 (plus or minus some quality of life and patch fixes etc.). it's impossible to mess morrowind up, though, so you're gonna have a good time no matter which list you 2026-06-17T06:41:49 choose 2026-06-17T06:42:42 <.gonzo.> if you got some ideas just make the mod! there isn't like a community effort to fill in some gaps as far as i'm aware, although that would be badass. this is more of a "hemaris knew a guy" situation 2026-06-17T06:45:37 I thought you meant someone was doing an AI voice diversification project via some community voice samples. That’s something I’d be interested in putting together, the tech has improved a lot since 2023. 2026-06-17T06:46:17 <.gonzo.> if you're already going to record enough lines to train the AI to do a proper job why not just record the lines to begin with? 2026-06-17T06:48:16 <.gonzo.> actually recording narration for all the books seems like a fun project. i might work on it someday 2026-06-17T06:48:27 Much much faster to do it that way and it’s difficult to tell now 2026-06-17T06:48:38 Realistically that’s the only way I think it’ll ever get done 2026-06-17T06:49:27 I don’t think no voice acting is core to the medium of Morrowind, but I understand opposing views 2026-06-17T06:50:01 <.gonzo.> yeah i don't think so either. the text is already written. 2026-06-17T06:50:28 <.gonzo.> i do think that planning for more voice acting in subsequent games led them to have far less text than morrowind had 2026-06-17T06:51:20 Which is exactly why I like the AI solution. I’m also not married to most of the base game voice acting, at least as the sole representative for each race/gender. 2026-06-17T06:52:00 No voice acting is core to the creation of the game 2026-06-17T06:52:36 No one can answer that question. It depends on the individual. 2026-06-17T06:54:59 I’ll bet a dollar that if Bethesda could have pressed a button that voiced everything they would have 2026-06-17T06:55:12 100% 2026-06-17T06:55:35 But that's after writing and creating without it 2026-06-17T06:56:01 combat also feels a bit weird sometimes although it might just be getting used to Mostly i am totally amazed by the immersive world and the lore, its soooo much better than Skyrim let alone Oblivion lol But the retro graphics just put that sensation off a bit for me, im wondering if it'd be even more immersive with beautiful graphics, not sure Mostly the char models put me off sometimes lol 2026-06-17T06:56:15 Referencing the encyclopedic dialogue. I don’t mind it spoken, helps drive home some more subtle points I find myself glossing over. 2026-06-17T06:56:18 <.gonzo.> Another thing with audiobooks of Morrowind specifically is that the quality varied. Sometimes it was quite good, but there were a lot of errors made and opportunities to rerecord they should have done 2026-06-17T06:56:30 Fair 2026-06-17T06:56:49 <.gonzo.> I would even say that it was like 95% good 2026-06-17T06:58:12 <.gonzo.> Lots of actual pronunciation issues or transcription issues (using the UESP later game versions of books instead of the ones in Morrowind :ur:) or just moments where you could tell they let the robot go for longer than it should have 2026-06-17T06:58:26 Try "Just Beautiful" first or replacer for heads and bodies 2026-06-17T06:59:03 cool, will check that out, thanks 2026-06-17T06:59:14 <.gonzo.> Just making note of it so that you don't make the same mistakes if you decide to give it a shot 2026-06-17T06:59:34 I'd recommend not going too beautiful with graphics, just because making sure nothing clashes can take a lot of work 2026-06-17T07:00:25 ^ Also correct. I use Robert's Bodies with Westley's Heads together. Took a minute to find the stuff to make it work correctly 2026-06-17T07:00:25 https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/55454 nah can we get this one added please, I love my beautiful 3:5 scale buildings 2026-06-17T07:00:57 If you're willing to put in the work to make things all feel right, absolutely go ahead. Just my advice for a new player. 2026-06-17T07:01:05 Bet, i was thinking of just doing modlists only so i dont have to worry about clashing but maybe ill tinker around. 2026-06-17T07:01:41 I just run better bodies + better heads (that's what I used back in the day) and 1024 textures 2026-06-17T07:01:55 The modlists will cover you and you can dick with the settings in menus to customize it 2026-06-17T07:02:36 If you just want to get in and play 2026-06-17T07:03:02 <.gonzo.> it's a pretty mod, but you're basically asking to ace the first boss in a dark souls game installing that one 2026-06-17T07:03:37 I’ve been told it runs with total overhaul 2026-06-17T07:03:52 <.gonzo.> yeah i'm sure it does. there's like 50+ patches it comes with for various things 2026-06-17T07:03:52 Haven’t tested it cause I’m mid playthrough 2026-06-17T07:04:03 cool. all in all, for the 20 hours ive already played, it has already been an amazing game, i get now why it's glazed so much, its pure art, you just feel people put so much effort and creativity in all the details and stuff, truly like nothing else ive played 2026-06-17T07:04:37 It’s kind of its own genre of game 2026-06-17T07:04:49 yea 2026-06-17T07:04:54 very inspiring 2026-06-17T07:04:58 It be the only one of its kind 2026-06-17T07:05:07 Closest thing after is probably new vegas which is still very simplified 2026-06-17T07:05:22 <.gonzo.> even the sequels are a mere shadow projection of what morrowind is 2026-06-17T07:05:26 <.gonzo.> (in most ways) 2026-06-17T07:05:34 She's a beautiful, lovingly crafted first person free form open world CRPG 2026-06-17T07:07:09 yea, i played Skyrim as a kid and loved it but its very watered down compared to Morrowind 2026-06-17T07:09:07 New Vegas is far more narrative. I would kill for a Fallout or just post apocalypse game with the same setup as Morrowind 2026-06-17T07:09:25 Got to say, I like how in morrowind, most skill levels just increase success rate as opposed to power/magnitude. I recently tried skyrim and thought "Well, not point in using this grand soul gem until I hit level 100 enchanting." 2026-06-17T07:09:55 There's some real fun monster hunting in NV. Love taking on cazadores 2026-06-17T07:10:00 Fallout 1 and 2 :todd: 2026-06-17T07:10:51 Are they not set up roughly the same way? I didn't think they were open ended 2026-06-17T07:12:19 never played Fallout 2026-06-17T07:12:26 I just finished a NV modlist trying to give the world a little more depth with the survival and traveling. Pretty successful so far 2026-06-17T07:13:51 I did a 'living off the land' run where I avoided settlements and interacting with NPCs (killing hostiles like bandits and fiends is fine). It was a blast. I was massively irradiated and had all crippled limbs until I had a breakthrough about level 18-19. 2026-06-17T07:15:04 I am constantly irradiated / crippled limbs and I balanced the economy really well. I walked from mojave outpost to primm just to get one gun I remembered leaving in a house. And from Nipton all the way back to goodsprings to get my stashed ammo and components 2026-06-17T07:16:20 I want to say the in depth survival mods aren’t super harmonious with New Vegas core gameplay thesis… But what is New Vegas’ niche? Definitely not as clearly defined as Morrowind’s investigation/character building loop 2026-06-17T07:17:35 The niche is interacting with well written characters and making choices with clear consequences, and having multiple ways so solve each issue or deal with interactions 2026-06-17T07:17:53 Well said, I agree 2026-06-17T07:18:28 You generally feel like your actions have meaningful effects on the groups of people and the mojave 2026-06-17T07:19:08 My only complaint on the survival side is that water is far too available 2026-06-17T07:19:43 I feel like it needs a built in canteen mechanic that isn’t just a pre order item dropped in your inventory 2026-06-17T07:20:04 Wouldn’t change that much else significantly 2026-06-17T07:20:52 "Famine" lets you set a % chance to remove loot items from the world and containers, and there is another that uses a script to auto-set values of all items. Keeps you just broke enough to get to the net place, and walking back to get a single weapon for repairs lol 2026-06-17T07:21:23 Good difficulty tweak, I do agree with those. JSawyer has been enough for me when I replay every couple years. 2026-06-17T07:21:35 Could be harder. 2026-06-17T07:21:49 It's pretty engaging since you're actually wondering if you'll find ammo or something to heal 2026-06-17T07:22:19 And equalizing gun / item values so they're sane relative to each other 2026-06-17T07:23:42 I also added "Simple Bleeding" and "Aid Addon" so you take bleeding damage and have to use a bandage or other item 2026-06-17T07:24:18 I’ve realized I like new Vegas’ semi vanilla weapons progression over the years, maybe with a tasteful small lore friendly weapons pack 2026-06-17T07:24:42 And then one to increase radiation by a simple multiplier, and another to make radiation damage cause health damage instantly as well 2026-06-17T07:25:04 https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/260439894298460160/1516705222905434203/IMG_5328.png?ex=6a339d50&is=6a324bd0&hm=387c1c3f0fa4f831bea4d2eeb63e404a87b4520fabf1434449bc12ce931b5102& 2026-06-17T07:25:10 I sort of hate bleed mechanics because they’re mostly player nuisances 2026-06-17T07:25:13 And that's about it for the major balance and gameplay 2026-06-17T07:25:19 It works on enemies too 2026-06-17T07:25:27 Ratslayer is probably my most used weapon. Perfect for the mojave. Recently learned the beauty of shotguns. Hunting shotgun was my daily driver, riot shotgun for emergency situations. 2026-06-17T07:25:44 In some unnamed adjacent servers this is so off topic they would flame you to death 2026-06-17T07:25:50 But lol funny picture 2026-06-17T07:26:21 I tried talking in one of those servers, they assumed I’m a nazi 2026-06-17T07:26:24 :sadcat: 2026-06-17T07:26:52 Smh why did both of you stop typing 2026-06-17T07:27:19 At least ask why 2026-06-17T07:28:00 Cus I'm tryna install a mod and I closed this window 2026-06-17T07:28:32 We're busy doing our own things 2026-06-17T07:28:52 :yagrwut: 2026-06-17T07:29:43 He's studying for his doctorate in enchanting 2026-06-17T07:30:00 There’s good money in there 2026-06-17T07:30:06 I'm actually preparing for work this evening. Anomaly is sort of also not even stalker anymore. Ship of theseus’d 2026-06-17T07:42:44 and I sure as shit can't play it on this thing. And idk about trying the PS5 version 2026-06-17T07:42:45 <.gonzo.> there's just a lot of added tedium and complexity for complexity's sake 2026-06-17T07:43:08 That’s surprising, I find it much more reasonable that gamma at least lmao 2026-06-17T07:43:09 <.gonzo.> the radio was a cool addition 2026-06-17T07:43:11 Disagree, I think it's mostly user interface issues 2026-06-17T07:43:18 <.gonzo.> the lack of quests was a majorly bad subtraction 2026-06-17T07:43:22 And the crafting mechanic is crazy work 2026-06-17T07:43:27 In anomaly? 2026-06-17T07:43:39 <.gonzo.> yes 2026-06-17T07:43:44 I agree in fact 2026-06-17T07:44:11 Full of quests? Unless I'm missing som 2026-06-17T07:44:12 Very fun organic zone exploration loop, though 2026-06-17T07:44:33 <.gonzo.> i mean okay yes it's full of like the same 5 quests repeated and one major quest line that's not very good 2026-06-17T07:44:39 Almost no high quality quests like SoC and CoP have 2026-06-17T07:44:47 Oh yeah it's not like htat 2026-06-17T07:44:56 They're like blue collar jobs lol 2026-06-17T07:45:10 Yes but I think it would benefit from more thought out quests 2026-06-17T07:45:16 Agree 2026-06-17T07:45:22 <.gonzo.> i'm just not really into the stalker sim as much as i am having a good reason to explore it rpg-style 2026-06-17T07:45:32 I mean imagine if it had TR level quest structure 2026-06-17T07:45:41 well since my laptop can't run modded Morrowind, I guess I'd have to play Gothic 2026-06-17T07:45:49 <.gonzo.> call of pripyat was amazing at that imo just wander around and find horrible anomalies 2026-06-17T07:45:54 the controls though... 2026-06-17T07:46:09 That’s definitely a strength of anomaly 2026-06-17T07:46:09 <.gonzo.> i do like how anomaly had call of pripyat style anomaly zones 2026-06-17T07:46:21 CoP is the only one I've played 2026-06-17T07:46:32 Which got me into anomaly 2026-06-17T07:46:45 SoC is the most interesting story and the least like anomaly 2026-06-17T07:46:52 <.gonzo.> anyways we should move into #off-topic before we Anger the Mods 2026-06-17T07:46:58 <.gonzo.> :entity_steve_stevari: 2026-06-17T07:47:18 https://tenor.com/view/bongocat-banhammer-ban-hammer-bongo-gif-18219363 2026-06-17T07:59:03 Let’s go back in topic, will es6 be worse than 5 2026-06-17T07:59:18 :ur: it will be full of ai and radiant quests 2026-06-17T07:59:39 I still remember Bethesda being proud when people couldn’t differentiate between real quests and radiant quests 2026-06-17T07:59:43 Crazy world we live in 2026-06-17T08:01:29 Will Morrowind get remastered before ES6 comes out? 2026-06-17T08:04:25 Can’t wait for a voiced nerevarine 2026-06-17T08:08:46 At this point, I would prefer if they went the FF7 way with a remake 2026-06-17T08:09:34 That would cost actual money, that would never happen 2026-06-17T08:09:43 I genuinely don’t think they will make one, not because they don’t want to 2026-06-17T08:09:48 But because they don’t have the ability 2026-06-17T08:11:07 There is a very nonzero chance that Bethesda just gets deleted by Microsoft before ES6 releases 2026-06-17T08:11:49 I'm curious about the Lantern of the Laughless Saint 2026-06-17T08:12:03 I hope it's just not hype and banter 2026-06-17T08:12:40 Didn’t they delete a studio today? :doitswit: 2026-06-17T08:13:55 LinkedIn says Beth is between 51 and 200 employees 2026-06-17T08:14:09 Yeah, the ones who’s making hells blade or whatever they are called 2026-06-17T08:14:16 Didn’t like their 2 first games but still 2026-06-17T08:14:24 Didn’t they announce their third one a week ago 2026-06-17T08:14:35 Weird time to massacre them 2026-06-17T08:14:54 End of Q2 2026-06-17T08:15:54 I feel like Bethesda employees get paid a fuckton, even if they are a small studio 2026-06-17T08:16:22 They are a small studio? 2026-06-17T08:16:24 What 2026-06-17T08:16:27 :ur: 2026-06-17T08:16:31 So probably they wanted to spruce up before handing in the quarterly numbers 2026-06-17T08:16:41 200 people is a fairly small studio for AAA 2026-06-17T08:17:09 Activision has like 7000 people 2026-06-17T08:17:09 It is pretty funny, the solution Microsoft has for there being no Xbox games 2026-06-17T08:17:14 Is killing studios who makes them 2026-06-17T08:17:24 We're an engineering team in my company and we're 41 people already 2026-06-17T08:17:34 POTI and TO: hold my beer 2026-06-17T08:17:54 Make your own remaster 2026-06-17T08:17:55 https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/260439894298460160/1516718521214701678/IMG_5330.png?ex=6a33a9b2&is=6a325832&hm=58637b6f72b15b828c7481a7044cfc00708b5a37b1b9ab8db36153d50b10c87f& 2026-06-17T08:18:17 AI is probably outdated or wrong 😅 2026-06-17T08:18:25 I mean Any remaster would be an active downgrade due to not having modding support parity 2026-06-17T08:18:28 :datchim: 2026-06-17T08:18:56 And mods already gave us Morrowind 2 :todd: 2026-06-17T08:19:22 I’m about to do my first playthrough with a big modlist, it really does change the game a lot 2026-06-17T08:19:43 Oblivion remastered doesn’t have mods? 2026-06-17T08:20:08 The modding scene is pretty much dead for them, apparently 2026-06-17T08:20:14 The UE5 thing means adding new models is hard and bad 2026-06-17T08:20:21 Fair 2026-06-17T08:21:04 I mean, I don’t think they can do what they did to oblivion in Morrowind 2026-06-17T08:21:12 Same engine but different skin 2026-06-17T08:21:12 Also, aint no one making UE5 models for mods 2026-06-17T08:21:17 That would be very hard probably 2026-06-17T08:21:20 Ofc they can't 2026-06-17T08:21:22 Nearly finished my preparations for work, so I'll have about an hour to myself before I start. What attributes are worth increasing short term as combat buffs? I know strength improves damage slightly. Speed could be useful for positioning. Agility slightly helps hit rate and avoiding being knocked down. Willpower is useful with casting (intelligence too, but restore magicka would probably be necessary to combine with 2026-06-17T08:21:23 it). 2026-06-17T08:22:00 The game is outdated not just with the graphics by today's standards 2026-06-17T08:22:12 Iirc they wanted to remaster fnv instead, but obsidian wouldn’t give them their source code 2026-06-17T08:22:21 So they will probably stop at f3 2026-06-17T08:22:52 Not wven mentioning that they likely already lost the source code for MW :todd: 2026-06-17T08:23:06 :doitswit: 2026-06-17T08:23:28 Achtuallyy... 😂 2026-06-17T08:24:04 That doesn't mean a lot nowadays with AI 😂 2026-06-17T08:24:31 They could decompile it in a reasonable timeframe 2026-06-17T08:24:47 Will TR be done before ES6? 2026-06-17T08:24:51 Plus the gamebryo source code is now on the internet 2026-06-17T08:24:56 Will OpenMW 1.0 be out before ES6? 2026-06-17T08:25:04 :sf_think_about_it: 2026-06-17T08:25:20 :todd: 2026-06-17T08:26:25 I think technically they could just use OpenMW for a morrowind remaster 2026-06-17T08:27:17 Not yet, though 2026-06-17T08:27:55 Unless they give up on the old rendering pipeline completely 2026-06-17T08:28:08 Which wouldn't be a bad thing, to be honest 😂 2026-06-17T08:28:43 Check the credits on daggerfall 2026-06-17T08:28:54 :moonsugar: 2026-06-17T08:29:21 Bethesda only got very big after oblivion I believe 2026-06-17T08:29:35 In Morrowind they were still a small team not that well known 2026-06-17T08:29:58 Vulkan OpenMW wen? 2026-06-17T08:30:17 https://giphy.com/gifs/god-of-war-kratos-6o5IfRXmf2tNi6tZkB 2026-06-17T08:32:33 We keep joking about MGE VK 2026-06-17T08:34:48 Unless somebody is willing to invest a massive amount of time on it, probably never 😅 2026-06-17T08:35:37 I’m salty about obsidian 2026-06-17T08:35:42 The last 3 games they made were so ass 2026-06-17T08:35:47 Hope they change their thinking 2026-06-17T08:39:01 Well, agility effects hit rate, block chance, and evasion rate (which exists even without sanctuary). Seems useful to me, including perhaps increasing the odds of that initial sneak attack hit 2026-06-17T08:40:28 Eh, I feel like it’s pretty useless for mages 2026-06-17T08:40:34 That’s my least used skill 2026-06-17T08:41:36 Agility is mostly good for not getting knocked down 2026-06-17T08:42:38 Ah yeah. Totally missed seeing that use case in the combat section on the uesp 2026-06-17T08:43:29 I usually always wear heavy armor 2026-06-17T08:43:35 Don’t think I did a light armor playthrough 2026-06-17T08:43:38 Since I never do stealth 2026-06-17T08:43:50 If i join thieves guild 2026-06-17T08:43:58 I just use my illusion spells 2026-06-17T08:43:59 Works better 2026-06-17T08:44:08 only if they were willing to release the remaster as open source, which they'd never do out of the fear that grips all game studios' hearts 2026-06-17T08:45:10 Probably there's a legal component too ? 2026-06-17T08:53:38 I vaguely remember reading an old OpenMW roadmap or dev discussion that suggested it was a goal for post 1.0 release 2026-06-17T08:53:48 so 2026-06-17T08:53:51 :2090: for sure 2026-06-17T08:54:43 I also vaguely remember someone trying to do it solo 2026-06-17T08:54:52 I think they may have given up by now 2026-06-17T08:56:55 Btw anyone here plays path of the incarnate modlist? 2026-06-17T08:57:08 Planning on playing it and want to ask about something 2026-06-17T09:00:53 Sure 2026-06-17T09:03:20 How is the mainland of Morrowind in the modlist? Would you say it’s playable or still needs some work? 2026-06-17T09:03:53 Cause I used to play a modlist in Skyrim, the added land there always caused crashes, very buggy with low fps 2026-06-17T09:04:33 It's great, haven't had any crashes in skyrim nor heard of anyone crashing in skyrim with it 2026-06-17T09:05:10 No no, I meant lorerim modlist in the game Skyrim, the added land there caused a lot of crashes 2026-06-17T09:05:22 Good, gonna try that in Morrowind then thanks 2026-06-17T09:05:53 You didn't like Pentiment? 2026-06-17T09:06:15 Idk that game 2026-06-17T09:06:29 I was talking about avowed and the 2 fallout new Vegas wannna be games 2026-06-17T09:06:43 Their last three games are that, Avowed, and ow2 2026-06-17T09:06:58 Is that game good? 2026-06-17T09:07:08 Before that was grounded, OW, and PoE2 2026-06-17T09:07:17 It's excellent 2026-06-17T09:08:58 <.gonzo.> i found OW to be greatly disappointing 2026-06-17T09:09:13 Looked it up, weird game 2026-06-17T09:09:17 I never even heard of it 2026-06-17T09:09:19 <.gonzo.> pentiment rules 2026-06-17T09:09:33 I usually follow obsidian 2026-06-17T09:09:35 Weird I didn’t notice it 2026-06-17T09:09:47 Pentiment is different in that it doesn't have traditional combat, its about the setting and places and talking to people, making choices with heavy consequences 2026-06-17T09:09:52 They tried so hard to make a comedy game 2026-06-17T09:09:55 It really doesn’t work 2026-06-17T09:10:12 <.gonzo.> at a certain point i could not figure out what they were going for at all 2026-06-17T09:10:21 If you don't like to read you might not like it though. Hard to recommend to zoomers 2026-06-17T09:10:39 Is there a Morrowind player who dislikes reading 2026-06-17T09:11:06 Given all the conversations about dogshit AI voicing, yeah it seems so 2026-06-17T09:11:15 Walmart FNV that feels hollow. 2026-06-17T09:11:18 It’s like what I tell everyone, the only reason ow became as famous as it is now is because everyone wanted to shit on fallout 76 2026-06-17T09:11:26 So they have been heavily promoting ow 2026-06-17T09:11:32 Saying it will replace fallout 2026-06-17T09:11:38 Ofc later everyone forgot about it 2026-06-17T09:11:50 :doitswit: 2026-06-17T09:12:41 Even reviews back then, literally half the review is shitting on f76 2026-06-17T09:12:48 I've seen such complaints. Even on TR channel, weirdly enough. 2026-06-17T09:12:53 A small part of the review is actually about ow 2026-06-17T09:13:03 :doitswit: :doitswit: 2026-06-17T09:13:14 Reading is too much nowadays 2026-06-17T09:15:23 Sometimes in voice acted games I skip dislogue after I read the sentences, not waiting for the NPC to finish. Depends how engaging it is. Reading is usually faster and VA quality in gaming varies a lot. Even more so in modded content. 2026-06-17T09:15:40 I don't hate reading, but video game writing is pretty mediocre at the best of times 2026-06-17T09:15:53 Yeah, in modded questlines I usually skip after reading 2026-06-17T09:15:59 Va is painful 2026-06-17T09:16:37 Some Skyrim modlists I saw had ton of VA content and it was very very bad. 2026-06-17T09:17:01 Not sure whether it's better nowadays. 2026-06-17T09:17:03 I think only very very few companion mods 2026-06-17T09:17:06 Have good vas 2026-06-17T09:18:07 Morrowind quest mods with VA also often stand out too much, so typically I prefer when it's just text. 2026-06-17T09:18:32 Wait what 2026-06-17T09:18:39 There are va Morrowind mods??? 2026-06-17T09:18:42 :36vehks: 2026-06-17T09:19:37 There are quest mods with VA, yes. Quality is varied. 2026-06-17T09:19:57 Many AI VA mods for standard text as well nowadays 2026-06-17T09:20:46 they invariably suck 2026-06-17T09:20:56 text-to-speech wikipedia crap 2026-06-17T09:21:28 Yeah, I'd rather just read it 2026-06-17T09:23:15 IMO most of MW generic (non quest-specific) text isn't even intended to be voice acted. The text structure tends to be matter-of-fact and/or encyclopedic in nature. It's not a standard conversation. Different flow. 2026-06-17T09:23:51 its the same text that was criticized for two and a half decades for being verbose, flat, informative without character 2026-06-17T09:24:04 people just want noise, because they are simple-minded cattle 2026-06-17T09:24:08 the noise is familiar 2026-06-17T09:24:28 Are you a vampire, by any chance? 2026-06-17T09:24:59 if sb wants VA, it's probably because they are well used to it from other games, I guesd 2026-06-17T09:25:35 we grognards decried it for a reason, among the many other industry trends that brought the artform low 2026-06-17T09:26:12 Well, there is some good VA in gaming as well. Usually not modded content, though. 2026-06-17T09:26:40 Like, New Vegas just would not at all work without the VA 2026-06-17T09:26:54 But it was made with it in mind. 2026-06-17T09:26:59 MW wasn't. 2026-06-17T09:27:03 that's true. lack of VA also held Fallout Sonora back 2026-06-17T09:30:08 Real life convo: - I'm a healer. - Oh. Interesting. Morrowind: I am a healer. I have sworn solemn oaths in the College of Restoration to heal the afflicted and cure the diseased. But I have also learned that preventing harm to others often requires a more active opposition to monsters and malefactors, so I have studied both the unarmed, unarmored martial arts of the Khajiit and the light armored and blunt weapon styles of the 2026-06-17T09:30:08 Imperial West, both for self-defense, and for disabling or killing dangerous opponents. 2026-06-17T09:31:13 Morrowind isn’t really the typical well written story 2026-06-17T09:31:20 What I like about it is how grounded it is 2026-06-17T09:31:35 The world building, you really work as a low level mage or warrior at the start 2026-06-17T09:31:53 It always felt weird to me in Skyrim to be a dragon born who works as an apprentice 2026-06-17T09:32:05 Bitch, one shout from me can literally demolish your headquarters 2026-06-17T09:33:03 Basically nothing about Morrowind is actually good in isolation 2026-06-17T09:33:16 It's like 30 really bad parts that somehow make a good game 2026-06-17T09:33:22 Yeah, it’s how it comes together tbh 2026-06-17T09:34:20 Tho magic system is pretty good even in isolation to be fair 2026-06-17T09:34:38 I dunno. I love the art style, for example. Not pure visuals. *Art style.. 2026-06-17T09:35:00 Compare to how ESO looks, even Vvardenfell there. 2026-06-17T09:35:04 It's off. 2026-06-17T09:35:16 Yeah, like Skyrim and oblivion does look generic 2026-06-17T09:35:21 Morrowind is actually unique 2026-06-17T09:35:25 It’s like a new planet 2026-06-17T09:35:52 Skyrim is quite beautiful, but Nordic themes are a bit overdone. 2026-06-17T09:35:58 I don't think morrowind is actually unique We just stopped making Linkin Park music videos and the style died out 2026-06-17T09:36:18 Idk any game with a similar look 2026-06-17T09:36:23 Skyrim's nordic theme wasn't overdone when it was released :) 2026-06-17T09:36:24 Planescape Torment 2026-06-17T09:36:30 Well, my best 'pre-fight' buff potion that I've managed to figure out will provide fortify strength, agility, and spell absorb. Uses expensive/hard to collect ingredients, however. 2026-06-17T09:36:31 It's different 2026-06-17T09:36:37 Great, but different 2026-06-17T09:36:54 And it's isometric and 2d, right? 2026-06-17T09:37:09 Which also changes how you look at it 2026-06-17T09:37:29 (I love both Torment and MW btw) 2026-06-17T09:39:06 People say that Ardenfell was MW-inspired. Seems more cartoony from screenshots. Maybe it's good. Dunno. 2026-06-17T09:39:08 I only played 3 hours of torment 2026-06-17T09:39:10 So I can’t comment 2026-06-17T09:39:15 Idk its art style well 2026-06-17T09:39:52 Indiana Jones did Dwemer ruins better 2026-06-17T09:39:53 https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/260439894298460160/1516739146960601169/Machineroom.webp?ex=6a33bce8&is=6a326b68&hm=4384f92d8f249244039863cf3ac7822ba454f6241d742e4789a4ba80f9163395& 2026-06-17T09:40:18 Looks like Reguard 2026-06-17T09:40:49 It runs on the original tomb raider engine 2026-06-17T09:41:03 But then, Redguard was probably inspired by Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider. 2026-06-17T09:41:52 MW is a straight up iso rpg in first person real time 2026-06-17T09:42:14 But it's open world and open ended unlike say baldur's gate 2026-06-17T09:43:15 I think that MW could work well as an isometric RPG. I would love to play a dialogue-focused DE/Torment-style Morrowind game :doitswit: 2026-06-17T09:43:55 It would be totally fine, real time with pause 2026-06-17T09:44:20 First person is superior for it tho 2026-06-17T09:44:46 The ability to handle all of the random clutter items individually is an ES exclusive 2026-06-17T09:46:07 Then you can hire slaves as your companions 2026-06-17T09:46:10 Using them as meat shield 2026-06-17T09:46:14 :datchim: 2026-06-17T10:11:09 I can’t really refute this, I tried to for a second with something about the dialogue but admire spam isn’t exactly strong gameplay 2026-06-17T10:12:25 It’s like being rewarded for figuring out one broke system so you can go to the next one until you get broken directions telling you to cross N+1 foyodas 2026-06-17T10:15:11 Unfortunately I can listen to a lot of the voice actors, even their AI homonculi, talk about themselves all day. Helps with the dynamic voice actors mod so they’re vaguely gesturing throughout the convo. 2026-06-17T10:51:25 Anyone know if this is a bug or feature? Just started total overhaul and I've been trying to fix this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6bCYBTFgII 2026-06-17T10:54:52 What is it? That's such a short video 2026-06-17T10:55:31 In almost every combat fatigue bar rapidly depletes while playing the falling crunch sound 2026-06-17T10:56:04 You can see it happen as soon as I block in the vid. Sometimes 1 swing in it automatically depletes my entire fatigue bar. 2026-06-17T10:57:22 That's very weird. 2026-06-17T10:57:24 Yeah looks weird 2026-06-17T10:57:46 Any other mods? 2026-06-17T10:57:52 Things I tried to fix it...capping framerate, turning vsync on...using these settings below: NPCs avoid collisions = true smooth movement = true [Physics] async num threads = 2 max position iterations = 8 max velocity iterations = 4 2026-06-17T10:58:32 I doubt it's setting related 🤔 2026-06-17T10:58:42 The only other mods I installed besides total overhaul was these: 2026-06-17T10:58:42 https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/260439894298460160/1516758982587449444/image.png?ex=6a33cf61&is=6a327de1&hm=34f128b6cf2d4561ea37aedc0f846d6cbd641bf21c31df13fc2a7e25205883c0& 2026-06-17T10:59:29 Does it happen regardless of gear? 2026-06-17T11:00:15 I've only tested it so far with gear on. I figured it would be a common bug...but perhaps not...let me do some more testing 2026-06-17T11:00:42 As Uncle Crassius would say... pants down, son. 2026-06-17T11:02:08 does it only happen when you block an attack 2026-06-17T11:02:19 @qlonever thats what im about to test 2026-06-17T11:02:37 it's Sol's combat 2026-06-17T11:02:51 https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/52221 2026-06-17T11:03:06 spamming the attack button causes fatigue damage 2026-06-17T11:03:14 stop spamming the attack button 2026-06-17T11:04:38 @daremaster That was it...I did kind of suspect it might've been a mod 2026-06-17T11:05:07 you installed almost 600 mods with Total Overhaul and you only suspected it might be one? :doitswit: 2026-06-17T11:05:43 Actually, that was quick 2026-06-17T11:05:48 With so many mods 2026-06-17T11:05:58 11 minutes 2026-06-17T11:06:07 I'm very familiar with seeing people complain about that 2026-06-17T11:47:23 Booo 2026-06-17T11:47:57 That's why I'm a Solthas Combat Pack hater :caius: 2026-06-17T11:47:59 Has there ever been a mod that fixes the issue of silt strider operators moving slightly throughout a playthrough and eventually falling off their platforms? I realize I can just use the reset actors command in console, but I'm curious if there's an automated solution now 2026-06-17T11:50:01 Idk I didn't have this issue in a long time 2026-06-17T11:50:13 Icm not even sure what causes it 2026-06-17T11:50:36 From what I understand, it's a busted animation loop 2026-06-17T11:50:50 There's always been a fix for that. It's called the Idle Animation Fix, but these days it's part of most large patches, like Patch for Purists. 2026-06-17T11:50:56 I still see the bug in OpenMW from time to time. Last time was very recently, in Gnisis I think 2026-06-17T11:51:15 I thought it had been integrated into OpenMW some roundabout way, but maybe not. 2026-06-17T11:51:19 Really! I always run PfP but it still happened 2026-06-17T11:51:28 I wonder if something very specific happened in my game 2026-06-17T11:52:36 Actually, I might have been experimenting with different lua NPC schedule mods at the time, lol 2026-06-17T11:53:05 PfP 5.x also had a bunch of teething problems so I wouldn't be surprised if some specific version just broke that again. 2026-06-17T11:53:29 Thanks for the info, I'll chalk it up to probably a one-off then 2026-06-17T11:53:44 It's cool to know it's been addressed though 2026-06-17T12:12:24 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1AJzGCKZNQ 2026-06-17T12:12:48 IMO it's more noticeable in places like Old Ebonheart, maybe I should do the test there? 2026-06-17T12:14:07 no, i wanted to know how it went in a situation where it's unlikely to help very much, just like this. thanks! 2026-06-17T12:17:09 looks like it costs about 0.3~0.4ms on cpu but doesn't actually negatively impact framerate, very interesting, it must be getting hidden gains that aren't showing up in the profiler 2026-06-17T12:17:32 that's about in line with how much my current setup costs for a somewhat similar scene so i think i'm on the right track 2026-06-17T12:17:33 thanks! 2026-06-17T12:18:05 npnp 2026-06-17T13:14:26 I think that I've found a use case for debuff spells. One aspect of their value is for initiating combat--but why not just open up with a fireball instead and kill the enemies quicker? I think, debuff spells become more useful when they effect more threats (area of effect) and when they have more individuals to take advantage of the debuff (summons/companions) 2026-06-17T13:21:36 As such, they'll only be really useful for characters with high magicka. Additionally, some of the debuffs end the fight quicker, which means less weapon and armor experience for a martially-oriented character 2026-06-17T13:23:21 Marksman is another skill with many opportunity costs associated with using it, neither gaining sneak experience nor armor/block skill 2026-06-17T13:27:12 Oh, I was intending to play stardew when I got home from work... 2026-06-17T13:39:56 Is that a thing in OMW? I haven't encountered the bug since I've started playing OMW in 2024. 2026-06-17T13:40:48 Without any patches or mods installed, yes, I've seen it a couple of times over the years. 2026-06-17T13:58:22 I like debuffs. Just a really cool gameplay mechanic. Same with buffs. Red Mage was one of my fav FF classes. 2026-06-17T13:59:55 *** ChanServ sets mode: +o jvoisin 2026-06-17T14:05:23 Even in games with varied status conditions, often times the best strategy is to hit your enemies until they're dead. 2026-06-17T14:06:01 Or, they're necessary. Or they're broken and overpowered (sleep is often busted) 2026-06-17T14:07:31 The only enemies in morrowind that I'm finding necessary to status are high level NPCs (and a few creatures, but some of them have reflect) 2026-06-17T14:09:28 Dia, Slow, Gravity, and Paralyse are a godly combo. Kinda miss it. 2026-06-17T14:28:43 The best debuff is Levitate 1 point. 2026-06-17T14:29:57 Reminds me, I have an idea for fortify strength 1 bajillion with a bow 2026-06-17T14:30:34 It'd be neat if everything had a sort of ablative magic resistance. You need to weaken it to do direct damage, but debuffs can bypass most of it 2026-06-17T14:32:05 So if you open with a fireball it will be mostly negated, but followup fireballs will increase in effectiveness. Or you could open with a debuff and break most of the magic resistance immediately, then a follow up fireball would be nearly 100% effective 2026-06-17T14:32:57 Spell costs are going to need to be rebalanced for that, I think 2026-06-17T14:32:58 You could repurpose the variable magnitudes to set the upper and lower limit of a spell based on the magic resistance 2026-06-17T14:33:02 Of course 2026-06-17T14:35:35 Additionally, it'll be challenging to balance that in a way to make it rewarding and enjoyable, otherwise martial just seems like the better option. Perhaps, 100% (or near) effectiveness, but for specific debuffs, bonus effectiveness is applied. 2026-06-17T15:34:06 Hi everybody i just re installed Morrowind i played a lot in the past but with MGEXE, when i try to install OpenMW in my Datafile or in the Morrowind files it says it can't find the Data Files could you please pint point to me where i can find my answers or tell what could be the problem, thank you foor your time 2026-06-17T16:52:28 Think I'm actually going to start testing spell effects that I've long neglected to give them a shot. I can't see any use for rally creature without mods. Default wild life is pretty aggressive. I remember making a fire damage + turn undead weapon, and that functioned well. Turn undead would pair best with marksman or ranged damage. Never actually found it necessary to use though (though, I think greater bonewalkers 2026-06-17T16:52:29 dread curse on touch, so I might start considering that spell) Demoralize creature functions similar to turn undead, so theoretically useful. But I'm thinking that perhaps it would really shine in solstheim or tribunal sewers. Turn undead might be good there too. 2026-06-17T16:53:14 I'd like to find an illusion spell that I actually use besides light/night-eye and invis 2026-06-17T17:07:52 does TR intentionally have a dev item 2026-06-17T17:07:52 https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/260439894298460160/1516851886756466738/image.png?ex=6a3425e7&is=6a32d467&hm=568caaaba5f005b50ac182af5fbf374cff7e5e06fac30d2183c6c324f5015baf& 2026-06-17T18:00:31 some stuff is just meant to be worse tbh 2026-06-17T18:00:58 Openmw should be installed somewhere else (like c:games or something) and then you set the path to your mw install. So when you run openmw it reads from your install 2026-06-17T18:02:42 You don't need I ever put anything in your data files with OpenMW 2026-06-17T18:03:26 idk but I like what you did with ur discord profile 2026-06-17T18:13:17 Hell yeah. Got free shrines in the cult and temple with this new character. 2026-06-17T18:28:58 https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/58948?tab=posts 2026-06-17T18:29:40 Oh wow, this is a cute idea 2026-06-17T18:29:42 Thank you! 2026-06-17T18:36:40 Such a simple way to fix it 2026-06-17T18:36:54 this persion is a genius 😅 2026-06-17T18:56:55 Pluginless too, which is always a plus 2026-06-17T19:14:11 not for statics 2026-06-17T19:14:28 because god knows how this mesh was kitbashed in other random places 2026-06-17T19:15:33 Yeah, that's a fair point, might end up seeing other broken objects/buildings if you play with it 2026-06-17T19:17:44 It's fine, we call those 'easter eggs.' 2026-06-17T19:37:57 Wow mind blown 2026-06-17T19:38:01 Had a strider uh pilot? operator? abuser? fall off a couple weeks ago 2026-06-17T19:39:20 The even biggerbrain move is to levitate yourself, let them chase you into the sky, then hit 'em with a Dispel effect. 2026-06-17T19:39:42 Usually, if they are still around, using RA in console to reset the actor helps bring them back. 2026-06-17T19:39:50 Insane lmao 2026-06-17T19:40:03 Never would have thought of that 2026-06-17T19:40:09 I just ra when anything gets weird with my npcs anyway 2026-06-17T19:41:02 Love when the quest has an NPC schedule neither the quest giver nor the wiki mention and I’m just RAing them away from where we’re allegedly supposed to meet while scratching my head 2026-06-17T19:42:52 There's one of each 2026-06-17T19:43:20 yeah i was informed by the TR discord 2026-06-17T20:18:27 Hey guys, I'm very new to modding Morrowind, I've been following the manual installation guide but this is my first time using OpenMW and I'm a little lost. I have reached the end of the guide, fully installed everything, and have ran the configurator. When I launch OpenMW however, it seems to be stuck on "" It shows all of the files in the Data Directory but the content files only show a small portion of the 2026-06-17T20:18:27 script files and none of the ESPs or ESMs including morrowind.ESM itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 2026-06-17T20:18:50 <.kyouma001> Is this normal that I have ? on potions atfer Ive used them? This is so that OpenMW know to use the content of the original game's data (Morrowind.esm). Sorry I can't give more detailed answer, but this is the step that apparently went wrong in your instal. 2026-06-17T20:35:42 Have you clicked on "No Game File" ? It should give you a dropdown menu 2026-06-17T23:34:59 is it possible to turn the shrubs and ferns inside narsis into groundcover?
